Wedding Photography Contract Checklist
A wedding photography contract checklist for India: the points to settle in writing before the wedding, so the couple and the photographer expect the same thing. Tick them off, copy the list or print it.

The contract checklist
What to include in a wedding photography contract
If you are wondering what to include in a wedding photography contract, start with the nine groups above. A good contract names the people and events, says what is delivered and when, sets the price and the payment dates, explains who owns the photos and how they are stored, and covers cancellation. You do not need long legal language to cover them. Plain sentences that both sides understand are easier to follow.
Many photographers start from a wedding photographer contract template and then change it for each job. That is fine, but check any contract template against this list, because a template written for another country or another kind of shoot can skip things that matter at an Indian wedding, such as several events over a few days. Add what is missing, and have a lawyer read the final version.
How to use this wedding photography contract checklist
Not sure what to include? Go through the nine groups with the couple before you quote. Write each answer in your own words, in a contract that both sides sign. A short contract that covers every point on this list is better than a long one with gaps. If you use a contract template from somewhere else, check it against this checklist and fill the gaps.
Pricing and the contract go together. The wedding photography pricing calculator shows what your hours, editing and costs add up to, and the deliverables in group 2 should match the numbers you used. For the delivery section, our wedding photo delivery checklist covers what to do after the contract is signed, and the storage calculator helps you plan how much space the gallery needs.
Keep the contract and the signed copy where you can find them years later. Couples often ask for photos long after the wedding, and a clear storage and delivery clause makes that conversation easy.
Make the delivery clause easy to keep
A storage and delivery promise is only as good as the place the gallery lives. Memoria for Photographers is in pre-launch, with a target of December 2026. It is built for branded delivery, guest photo collection and a permanent gallery for the couple. Pricing will be announced one month before launch.

What should a wedding photography contract in India include?
It should name the people and events, list what is delivered and when, set the price and payment dates, say who owns the photos and what each side may do with them, explain storage and delivery, and cover cancellation and what happens if something goes wrong. This checklist groups those points so you can tick them off.
Do I need a written contract for a small wedding?
A short written agreement is still useful. Even a one-page document that lists the dates, the deliverables, the price and the delivery date avoids most misunderstandings. A message thread can work as a record, but a signed page is easier to point to.
Who owns wedding photos in India?
That depends on what the contract says, which is why this checklist tells you to settle it in writing: who owns the photos, what the couple may do with them, and whether the photographer may use them in a portfolio. For a legal answer about your own case, ask a lawyer.
How many photos should the contract promise?
Use a range based on the events and hours covered, for example a few hundred to over a thousand edited photos, instead of an exact number. The pricing calculator shows how hours, editing time and delivered photos affect your price.
How long should a photographer keep the wedding files?
There is no single rule, so write your own policy into the contract. State how long you keep the files, how long the gallery stays online, and that the couple should download and keep their own copies.
Is this checklist legal advice?
No. It is a list of points to discuss and write down. Laws and good practice differ, so have a lawyer read your contract before you use it.
